The attack by the United States and Israel on Iran is an act of aggression by the world’s leading imperialist power and its Middle Eastern bridgehead, Israeli Zionism, against an oppressed nation. Communists stand unconditionally in defense of the Iranian working class and youth against the imperialist assault now underway.
At the same time, we do not endorse the murderous regime of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which emerged from the betrayal and derailment of the 1979 Iranian Revolution. But as the Trade Union of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company correctly explains in its February 27 statement, the liberation of the Iranian people will not come from U.S. or Israeli military intervention, but from the independent organization of the working class:
“The Syndicate continues to emphasize its fundamental and inviolable principle: the true liberation of the people of Iran is possible only through collective leadership and the conscious, organized, and independent participation of the entire working class, together with other oppressed sectors within the country — not through military intervention by the United States and Israel, nor by any other foreign state seeking power, or its affiliated and supporting forces.
While strongly condemning the mass killing of the country’s poor, the Syndicate expresses its sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed in the January uprising and demands the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees.”1
In light of this, the Lula government’s stance is shameful. It limits itself to condemning the attack and calling on the parties involved to “respect International Law and exercise maximum restraint to avoid an escalation of hostilities and ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.”2 By refusing to demand the immediate end of the attacks, Lula once again demonstrates his complete submission to the interests of imperialism.
At the beginning of 2026, we saw how the United States mobilized to attack Venezuela and kidnap Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores, installing the puppet government of Delcy Rodríguez. The attack on Iran followed a similar script. At the same time, we see the total blockade of Cuba, aimed at plunging the country into famine and misery, which serves precisely to pave the way for an attack on the island.
The Internationalist Communist Organization (OCI) stands with the Iranian working class and youth against this aggression. We call on all organizations opposed to imperialism and war to unite in organizing a demonstration in front of the U.S. embassy, demanding the immediate end of the attack by imperialism and the Zionist government of Israel.
We also invite all our supporters to take part in the National Meeting Against Imperialism and Its Wars, to be held on April 18 in São Paulo, and online as well (register here). At this meeting, we will discuss the need for working-class and youth self-organization worldwide and for building independent instruments of struggle and resistance to end capitalism, imperialism, and the wars that ravage humanity.
Against the attacks by the United States and Zionism on Iran!
Down with imperialism! Down with capitalism and war!
Workers of the world, unite!
